By Travis Kessler
When we were first married, Shelley’s grandparents used to come visit us and always asked me to make my barbecue chicken. They loved it and named it “Chicken Travis,” so it has been a staple in our family since.
Last Father’s Day, my sons-in-law and I had a barbecue sauce contest. We each made our own sauces (and they both are really good cooks) and had a blind taste test. And, no surprise, mine won. But, it WAS Father’s Day and I’m sure it was rigged for me to win!!!
Everybody loves it and always asks for it for special occasions. The sauce is good on baked potatoes and other vegetables, too.
- Heinz Ketchup
- Yellow Mustard
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Red Wine Vinegar
- Sea Salt
- Black Pepper
- Crushed Red Pepper
- Chicken Thighs (Skinless but not boneless)
- COLD BEER
Before starting, open a cold beer!!! Saute onions and garlic to taste. Add the mustard, Worcestershire sauce, red wine vinegar, lemon, salt and pepper to Heinz Ketchup to taste. Stir and cook sauce for 5-minutes. Grill or bake chicken to taste, and pour barbecue sauce over it and bake 10 more minutes. The sauce is also good over baked potatoes, and other grilled vegetables, brown rice and legumes.
