People all over the world are working to change lives every day. Iron Butterflies Project loves to honor organizations that make a significant difference by doing important and vital work to help people #flyforwardtogether. We want to dedicate this #ButterflyKisses segment to Family Connects Texas for their extraordinary contributions to families in Texas.
Babies don’t come with an instruction manual – Family Connects Texas is here to help.
Research shows that 95% of families have physical, mental, or social-emotional health needs within the first few weeks of a baby’s birth. That’s where Family Connects steps in.
United Way for Greater Austin has partnered with Austin Public Health to give babies the best possible start in life by providing a free, evidence-based nurse home visiting program for all families with newborns in Travis County.
During a Family Connects visit, a Registered Nurse provides a complete family assessment in the home, gives immediate maternal and family support in areas such as breastfeeding or safe sleep, and provides warm referrals to a comprehensive database of community resources.
Family Connects Texas will celebrate its second birthday in Fall, 2020, and the program has already supported more than 1,240 families!
And, families are loving the support: Laura K. said, “My Family Connects experience was overall incredible! First hand I have seen how amazing but also challenging and uncertain motherhood can be. Having a nurse who was incredibly warm, kind, considerate, and overall very caring visit me in the comfort of my own home helped me feel supported and also put me at ease. As a first time Mom, I had so many questions and the time my nurse spent with me was invaluable. After she left, I felt encouraged, supported, and more confident to care for my little one. I wish that every Mom in Austin could feel the support of Family Connects.”
